David-Isaías, a charismatic but decadent hoax artist, becomes obsessed with impressing legendary filmmaker Mr. Welles after a drunken romantic encounter with Miss Hayworth, the director's wife. To this end, he visits Welles' studio with his latest creation: The Gizmo, a mysterious brass tube that promises to photograph thoughts.
